Overview:

Using a recurring subscription model allows you to charge your customers on a regular basis for products and services. This approach can enhance the customer experience and increase your revenue, alongside one-time purchases.

  • Recurring subscription can drive new and predictable revenue for your business. It can increase customer loyalty, offer convenience, and lead to increased sales overall.

  • Stor offers a range of billing cycles for subscriptions, including daily, every X days, weekly, monthly, and annually. Customers can subscribe to a variety of products and services, such as food, daily essentials, cosmetics, membership access, regular donations, and more.

  • You need to connect the Stor native Trust Payments payment method to set up recurring subscriptions. If you need help getting set up, please visit this page.

Quick guide links:

How Stor's recurring subscriptions work.

Requirements:

  • To enable product subscriptions on your shop, you will need to connect it to your Trust Payments.
If you do not yet have a Trust Payments account, please get in touch.

  • You also need to be subscribed to the Standard plan or above.

Options:

When setting up a product, you determine things like the billing period and discount.

  • You have the option to allow customers to buy a product as a one-time purchase or as a subscription.

  • Customers can use a credit or debit card to pay for their subscription (not PayPal at this time), which is automatically charged after purchase. Customers can also manage their subscription within their customer account, including cancellation or changing payment details. Unfortunately at this time, subscriptions cannot be paused.

Shipping:

It's important to note that if shipping fees apply, they will be charged every time the subscription is renewed. For example, if a customer subscribes to a £10 product that requires £5 for shipping, they will be charged £15 for each renewal.

Product Variants:

If your store offers products with variations, such as different flavours, and a customer subscribes to a particular variation, such as chocolate flavoured cookies, they will be subscribed only to that variation. If they want to change to a different variation, such as toffee flavoured cookies, they must first cancel their current subscription and then subscribe to the new variation.

Orders:

Every time a customer is charged for a product subscription, a new order is automatically placed, added to your pending order list and you will receive an email, just like you would with a standard online order.

In the event of payment problems or a subscription cancellation, you will also receive an email notification.

Enabling recurring subscriptions on your shop.

  • Visit Settings > Enhancements from the main menu and activate 'Product Subscriptions' from the list.

  • Create a new or visit an existing product which you would like to add a subscription to.

  • Product edit screen, Side menu > Subscription.

Setting individual subscription options & discounts on a product.

  1. Select a type (Standard Purchase + Subscription or Subscription only)

  2. Add some 'Incentive Text' eg: "Subscribe and Save!"

  3. Add a short description about why it's great to subscribe.

  4. Add the Frequency/Interval Options (daily, weekly, monthly, annual) etc..

  5. Set the discount per option, if you want to offer one (its recommended!)

  6. Scroll back up to the top and 'enable' the subscription and save the product.

You should then visit the product on the shopfront, to just make sure everything is how you want it.

Managing and Cancelling subscriptions.

  • To manage a customer's product subscription, simply visit:
    Main menu > Subscriptions

  • Here you can see all the details about the subscription and also this is where you can cancel, if you need to.

NB: if a customer has subscribed when the product is on sale, they will continue to pay the initial price.
